27th July: NATIONAL WALK ON STILTS DAY
A stilt is defined as a “pillar, post, or pole used to help a person or structure stand above the ground.” While most of us, as previously stated, have only seen them used for entertainment purposes, they have also been used in a variety of industries ranging from shepherding to construction. Stilts are sometimes used in the construction of a building as part of the permanent structure. After all, if you live in a flood plain, on the beach, or in another area where the ground is untrustworthy, what better way to protect yourself than to raise yourself above it all?
Every year on July 27, many people are much taller while walking around because it is National Walk on Stilts Day. To join in the fun, get yourself a pair of stilts, find your balance, and begin practicing. National Walk on Stilts Day allows you to join the august ranks of people who have used stilts for work and play throughout history. If you’re looking for a new hobby that will take you on adventures to new heights, stilts are the way to go! You can get them from a local supplier or buy them ready-made online.
