India celebrates Independence Day on August 15 every year. It is a national holiday in India commemorating the nation’s independence from the united kingdom on 15 August 1947. India’s Independence Day is celebrated nationwide on August 15. It marks the end of the British rule in 1947 and the establishment of a free and independent nation. Our independence day also marks the anniversary of the partition of the sub- continent into two countries, India and Pakistan.
Our nation is like a tree of which the original trunk is swarajya and the branches are swadeshi and boycott.

Independence day is celebrated nationwide with the singing of the national anthem, flag raising ceremonies and drills. There would be various cultural programs in the state capitals. On the eve of the Independence day, the president of India delivers the address to the nation. The prime minister participates in the flag raising ceremony at the Red Fort, New Delhi and 21 gun shots are fired in honor of the solemn occasion. The prime minister pays tribute the leaders of the Indian independence movement and in his speech he highlights the past years achievements and raises important issues and calls for future development. A parade ensues with the members of the armed forces and police. Similar events take place in the state capitals where the chief ministers of individual states unfurl the national flag.
The Independence Day is considered as a public holiday with outings, picnics and events like parades, fireworks, air shows, and musical concerts. Nowadays, kite flying has become a tradition on this day and people fly numerous kites of all colours, sizes, shapes symbolizing freedom and enjoy the day with their families and friends.
