19th November: International Men’s Day
International Men’s Day on November 19th is a chance for men around the globe to teach the boys in their lives the values, character, and responsibilities of being a man. On this day, male role models are invited to set examples of health, well-being, and integrity for young men.
When men lead by example, they help to create a fair and safe society. Their positive actions allow everyone to prosper. Men celebrating International Mens Day should not only be thinking about how they can positively influence their sons but other boys as well. These include boys without a father or who do not have a male role model to guide them through life.
- Encourage men to lead their families and communities.
- Thank a man who has helped you achieve your goals.
- Find positive role models for your boys
History of International Men’s Day
The day was first inaugurated in 1992 on 7 February by Thomas Oaster to celebrate the contributions made by men in various aspects of life.
There were various attempts to start an International Men’s Day that received little response. It wasn’t until November 19 when Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh re-initialised the day in Trinidad and Tobago in 1999 that International Men’s Day began to get international traction. The new event received overwhelming support in the Caribbean, and due to the persistent networking and invitations sent to individuals in other nations, International Men’s Day has taken root on the international scene.
