21st July: Junk Food Day
Junk Food Day is celebrated on July 21st with a massive menu of items. During junk food day, people are permitted to eat as much junk food. Junk foods, by definition, are high in fats, sugars, salt, and calories, with little nutritional value.
Junk food entered American culture with the introduction of packaged foods in the late 1800s. Nonetheless, home-cooked meals remained the norm for several decades. Following World War II, the artery-clogging industry took off. Because people ate out more and traveled more, the industry was primed to produce goods at a faster rate.
While deep-fried, fat-laced foods increase our waistlines, cholesterol, and blood sugar numbers, an occasional indulgence shouldn’t impact a healthy, diverse diet and lifestyle. Also, producers make healthy versions of our favorite junk foods to entice us to enjoy them a little.
