5th October: World Teachers Day
World Teachers Day is celebrated annually on October 5. This is a day to honor teachers and teacher organizations. Teachers make a vital contribution to the education and development of our future leaders. More than 100 different countries observe this holiday.
The United Nations’ (UN) World Teachers’ Day celebrates the role teachers play in providing quality education at all levels. This enables children and adults of all ages to learn to take part in and contribute to their local community and global society.
In 2020, World Teachers’ Day will celebrate teachers with the theme “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”. The day provides the occasion to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, take stock of achievements, and draw attention to the voices of teachers, who are at the heart of efforts to attain the global education target of leaving no one behind.
