Previsualization in Animation

The importance of Previsualization in Animation

Previsualization is the art of imagining and planning for a final product. As far as animation is concerned, previsualization is equally important because it aids in ensuring the final outcome is splendid. The previsualization team always works hand in hand with the client or even the director so as to come up with a rough idea of what is supposed to be captured, of how some performance should be lit for the proper presentation of the final product. This is a very important aspect because it provides the producer with a number of options and hence leeway on how to do their job. The following are some of the importance of previsualization in animation.

Firstly, previsualization is key for animators because it gives them room to understand how to quickly and precisely set cameras and lay performances in a filmable manner. Before the film shoot is done or even setting your performance arena before shooting, the animator has to work hand in hand with the director or communicate with him in order that he may get the director’s visions. This helps one to have full control of his pictures during storyboarding.

Additionally, previsualization is key because it helps one maintain the mastery of their pictures. In the present-day animation industry, a director can quickly get replaced simply because of a lack of the ability to express his/ her visions. Furthermore, if an animator is able to sense the director’s sense of indecisiveness then the production can quickly topple over and get out of control. As a result, in animation, previsualization is important because it gives the directors a charge over the animators and hence a quality outcome due to proper management of the pictures or rather visualizations.

Last but not least, the importance of previsualization is to help set the cost of production of an animated movie. Comparing the olden days and the present-day production process, an animated movie budgeted for $1 million can cost $8 million. This is because fewer entities are willing to invest in the production due to the risk involved. As a result, with previsualization, the risk is highly prevented and also it helps the director plan in a creative and efficient way that he envisions and effectively handles any of the unforeseen acts of Murphy’s law.

In Swift, previsualization is important because it saves the animation production companies as well as other production companies in ensuring much is achieved out of their everyday task. For a qualified team of previsualization experts and directors, and to guarantee a high-quality animation movie without risks of investing.

Top 5 Animated Movies we are Looking forward to in 2019

Top 5 Animated Movies

Similar to the previous years that witnessed some of the best animation movies in the world, 2019 also stands as one of the years with the best upcoming lineup. With the following list of fully updated and well-researched content, we are confident that the following are among the best animated movies that you should eagerly wait for.

First in the queue is FROZEN 2. With the first part of the scene having been released in 2013, the animation movie confidently bears all the weight as the first one on the list of animated movies to anticipate in 2019 besides becoming a selling and live show, Marvel. The development, just to affirm its readiness, experiences the return of the original directors and many of the cast including Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell.

Secondly, we have THE LION KING. Despite the Disney reference to this movie as a live-action remake, it is factual to comment that it is just a photo-real computer animation. The director Favreau who passionately handled the Disney live-action or rather the CG hybrid of re-imagining the jungle book, is also overpoweringly on the lookout for all CG for LION KING. However, the same technique of virtual production approach to ‘shoot’ the film is going to be employed. MPC has the mandate to come up with all the charming characters of the film and their environments.

Additionally, THE ANGRY BIRD 2 is having its way back in 2019. The Rovio and SONY picture animation are cleaning their way and putting together their efforts for the Angry Bird 2. It is quite important to mention that this is just a follow-up of the 2016 release and is based on the Finnish mobile game fad.

Consequently, The Addams Family is also next in line. In this animated movie, the two animation giants Cinesite and MGM have collaborated to produce this newly featured adaptation of Charles Addams’s comic character. Here in, we should expect to see the Addams family face off against a crafty television host while also making preparations for the extended family to arrive for a remarkable celebration.

Last but not least, the KLAUS is also preparing itself. Sergio Pablo is the chief director of this film. With his film directional debut upon Klaus, the main theme this year of this quirky holiday-themed movie will be to expound on the origin of Santa Claus.

In a nutshell, as we have seen above in the brief description of the best-animated movies to expect in 2019, we should also question ourselves about the animation tricks and techniques behind these fancy movies. How important is drawing in animation? A detailed Survey

Importance of drawing in animation

In every task that we do, even when in class, there are some procedures and methods that are put in place to ensure a swift flow of any task. In a similar way, in animation, there are various defined routes that one has to take in order to find it easy to come up with the animation of interest. Among them is drawing. Many of the upcoming animators decide to avoid or rather evade this stage and rush to the other forward steps and hence, they end up stranded or even developing animation characters they did not anticipate. As a result, the following are some key importance why drawing is reinforced by key animation studios, for example, the Prayan Animation Studio in India.

Firstly, by coming up with a drawing or rather a sketch of what you want to develop as an animator before starting to develop and engineer your different parts, it is equally important to come up with a drawing to enable you to have a glimpse or rather an eye for its anticipated motion and anatomy detail. Furthermore, coming up with a drawing before you start the activity of designing digitally, gives you a direct and straightforward approach to the ideas in your mind.

Additionally, it is important more so for the individuals who are doing digital 2D animation. It is important for a good professional animator to come up with a drawing to enable you to quickly and easily figure out the key poses and moves that you wish to develop.

Concurrently, drawing before animating is a good communication tool in that apart from its use in sketching concrete objects, it can also be used in transmitting ideas and concepts. These are important more so in aiding people who do not have knowledge of interpreting detailed drawings.

From the above, it can be seen that drawing in animation is an essential tool to ensure success whether in traditional or in digital computer animation design. Furthermore, in traditional animation, it is equally important right from the start to the end of the animation hence no means of evading it. However, this should not prevent you, Prayan Animation Studio based in India is there to aid you in any task that requires animation right from drawing to designing the production.  We are here for you. ToonBoom vs TV Paint Animation: Prayan Animation

ToonBoom vs TV Paint Animation

I think it comes down to preference in most cases. I am sure each program has its special features and such, but when doing traditional hand-drawn animation, all the specials are not really needed. When I was in college (computer animation) we had to take several traditional animation classes as well, and the college I attended had ToonBoom. It was a great program and worked very well for what we needed it to do. I personally have not tried Harmony or TV paint, but like I said ToonBoom worked beautifully.

Harmony Essentials does NOT offer any bitmap painting tools – only vector tools. Harmony Advanced and Premium have bitmap painting tools, however, and quite painterly drawing is possible.

Harmony is not only a digital puppet animation app – it does far more than that. You can animate traditional frame by frame and combine these techniques with digital puppets.

TV Paint does have more natural feeling media tools, though. It’s a bit like comparing Photoshop to Painter. It depends on how far you want or need to go with more a simulated natural media approach of drawing and painting. TV Paint focuses solely on bitmap-based (mostly frame-by-frame) animation while you can definitely do traditional hand-painted work in ToonBoom. It has a good combination of vector and bitmap layers and brushes. For example, in ToonBoom you can have a brush with a bitmap texture and color it in with a vector layer.

Krita, for example, also supports frame-by-frame animation and has much more powerful bitmap drawing and painting tools compared to Harmony. So do ClipStudio EX, and the latest version of OpenToonz integrates the MyPaint bitmap brush engine, which is arguably more advanced than Harmony features.

It is also possible to combine the strengths of two or more animation applications. If you need more painterly animated background drawings, you might decide to do those in TV Paint or Krita, and then export the animation as an image sequence for import into Toonboom Harmony, and use the vector tools in Harmony to do other parts of the animation.

Anyway, it is best to not focus too much on the software, and rather define what you actually need for the execution of your animation. My animation toolkit consists of a number of apps to do what I want – not just one. Stop worrying about the software.

Why Learning Cartoony Animation Makes You a Better Animator?

Why Learning Cartoony Animation Makes You a Better Animator

In the animation world, for one to thrive and be successful as an animator, one needs to be creative, competitive, innovative, and hardworking just to mention but a few. However, this does not come on a silver plate and it means that one has to face some exposure to different animation sectors and even meet with potential animators to learn from them.  Additionally, proper practice and optimism are key to this. Since time immemorial, many animators have been defining their way to the best animators’ panel simply by learning Cartoony animation. Hence this article explains why learning cartoony animation makes one a better animator.

To begin with, cartoony animation is important to animators and makes one a good animator because it renders one to caricature and movements of its kind. This is one of and most common ways of creating art. To elaborate this, by learning cartoony animation one is exposed to caricature movement which enables one to give skilled artistic touches to an animation that amps it and makes it special in some manner.  As a result, as a good if not the best animator, you need to exhibit high and creative caricature in your animation just like in cartoons.

Additionally, cartoon animation makes one versatile. This means that by learning cartoony animation as animators our design minds and third eyes are opened to movement possibilities that we never thought of their existence. Furthermore, we will be able to exhaustively explore and make use of 2 frame anticipation as well as pop up your character from one point to another on the screen with a minimal number of frames. This makes one a smart animator among many.

Last but not least, with cartoony animation, animators are able to be equipped with the fundamentals of animation design. This is because the cartoony animations seem to operate under rules that are different from the naturalistic movements. Therefore, spending time and learning cartoony animation makes one comfortable in moving along the spectrum starting from realistic to caricature movements.  This also enables one to learn and identify the importance of movement whether in the wild take realistic refinement or anything close to the above.
